Implant & Full-Arch Dentistry

All-on-X Dental Implants

All-on-X is a fixed full arch of teeth held by implants. The “X” is the number of implants chosen for your jaw: four, six or eight, known as All-on-4, All-on-6 and All-on-8.

The number and placement are planned after an examination and imaging, together with the design of the new teeth.

All-on-4: four implants

Four implants carry the whole arch. They are placed where the bone can hold them; the back two are often set at an angle to make better use of the bone that is there. It is a common choice when the bone allows it.

  2. Four implantsThey carry the whole arch; their places are planned from imaging of the bone.

All-on-6: six implants

Here the full arch of teeth rests on six implants. Whether this suits you depends on the jaw bone and the design of the new teeth; more implants do not necessarily mean a better choice.

All-on-8: eight implants

Dr. Ehsan Asadi also restores a full arch on eight implants. Eight may be part of the plan when the jaw has enough bone along its length and the planned teeth call for support spread over more points. The number is set by your own treatment plan after examination and imaging; more implants are not automatically better.

How the number is chosen

The number depends on how much bone there is and where, how dense it is, the forces of your bite, including clenching or grinding, the design of the new teeth, and your general health. We explain the recommendation, and the reasons for it, before you decide.

A removable option on two implants

Not everyone needs fixed teeth. A removable overdenture can clip onto as few as two implants, most often in the lower jaw, and comes out for cleaning. It is a different treatment, not a version of All-on-X; it is explained on the Implant Overdentures page.

Questions patients ask

Is All-on-X a different treatment from All-on-4?

No. All-on-4, All-on-6 and All-on-8 are versions of All-on-X with four, six or eight implants; All-on-X is the general name when the number is chosen for your jaw.

How is All-on-X different from full-arch treatment?

Full-arch is the wider group and includes removable overdentures. All-on-X is always fixed: the teeth stay in, and only the dentist removes them.

Can I take the teeth out?

No. The set is fixed to the implants; only the dentist removes it when needed.

Who decides the number of implants?

Dr. Ehsan Asadi recommends it after examining your jaw, and explains the reasons before you decide.
