Comfort & Sedation

Sedation Dentistry

If dental visits make you anxious, tell us. Comfort is part of planning your care, from how each step is explained to the pace we work at.

At your visit, after reviewing your health history, we go over the options available and which one suits you.

Dental anxiety and comfort

Many people feel uneasy about dental care. You can tell us what worries you, agree with us on a signal for a pause and take things one step at a time.

The sedation options we offer

We offer nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, which you breathe through a small mask over the nose, and oral sedation, which is medicine taken by mouth. Sedation is different from local anesthesia, which numbs only the area being treated.

Who might this treatment suit?

Sedation may help some people manage dental anxiety or tolerate a longer appointment. Whether nitrous oxide or oral sedation is appropriate depends on an individual assessment of medical history, medications and the planned treatment. Preparation and aftercare instructions depend on the method selected.

Questions patients ask

Do I need sedation to be comfortable?

Not necessarily. Many people are at ease with clear explanations, time and a signal for a pause. Whether sedation suits you is decided after reviewing your health history.
