Dental Crowns
A crown covers a tooth that is weakened, heavily filled, cracked or treated with a root canal, to protect it and restore its shape. A crown can also be placed on a dental implant.
We offer ceramic crowns, made to match the shade and shape of the teeth around them.
Why a crown, not a filling
A filling repairs part of a tooth; a crown covers and holds the whole visible tooth. It is suggested when a tooth needs that protection, and the reasons are explained before you decide.
How treatment usually unfolds
Examination
We examine the tooth, usually with an X-ray, and explain why a crown is suggested and what the alternatives are.
Preparing the tooth
With the tooth numbed, it is shaped so the crown can fit over it, and a digital scan or impression is taken.
Protecting it meanwhile
If the crown is made in a laboratory, a temporary crown protects the tooth until it is ready.
Fitting
The crown is checked for fit, bite and shade before it is cemented in place.

Questions patients ask
Does the tooth need to be reshaped?
Yes. The tooth is prepared so that the crown can fit over it. How much depends on the tooth and on the material.
How do I look after a crown?
Like your other teeth: brushing, flossing and regular checkups. If it feels high when you bite, tell us; it can be adjusted.
How much will it cost?
It depends on your plan. Before you decide, you receive a written estimate of what your insurance is expected to cover and what you may need to pay. If you would rather pay over time, ask about financing through Cherry, which is subject to approval.
