Cosmetic Bonding

Cosmetic bonding uses a tooth-colored composite resin, shaped and polished on the tooth, to repair a small chip, close a small gap or even out an edge. It usually needs little or no removal of the tooth's surface.

An examination shows whether bonding suits the tooth in question.

What bonding is used for

Bonding is used for small changes to one or a few teeth. For larger changes of shape or color, or for heavily worn teeth, a veneer or a crown may be considered instead; we explain the difference before you decide.

Questions patients ask

Does bonding change color over time?

Composite resin can pick up stains over time, for example from coffee or tea, and it does not lighten with whitening. If you plan to whiten your teeth, that is usually done first, so the shade can be matched.
